Happy anniversary to us @beautycounter it was 5 years ago I first heard about Beautycounter and the way this company was shaking up the beauty industry.
This topic was close to my heart having so many clients going through treatment it lead me to my clean beauty journey that started In 2014. I was one of the first group of oncology estheticians in Ontario to be trained in oncology esthetics with @oti this was where I learnt how to properly treat clients to safer spa services & the importance of cleaner products for sensitive skins .
After graduating from oncology esthetics I & a friend were inspired to create an event for local women in our community going through cancer treatment to be gifted to a day of beauty and wellness & we’re happy to say @awakeningtobetterbeauty is now become an annual event here at the spa & we work closely with Brantford General Hospital oncology nursing department.
At the time I was also a volunteer cosmetic advisor with Look Good Feel Better, we taught women going through treatment how to apply there makeup when going through chemo treatments and adjusting to the new issues of loosing there hair, brows, lashes and skin changes.
Fast forward to 2016 when I really started to dive much deeper into what’s in our products. for myself I was trying to clean up my own products because I was going through IVF treatments for fertility and wanted to clean out any toxic ingredients lingering in my pun cosmetic and personal care products. This was when it hit me that this was important for everyone.
When I first seen Gregg Renfrew the owner of Beautycounter doing a lecture on the topic of clean beauty @nantucketproject it was like she was speaking directly to me. It hit home on so many levels. I dove in head first and signed up to be a consultant with this company that same day! I knew this was a company I wanted to get behind and show my support as they were making waves in the industry and I wanted to be a part of the change. It was the first company I’ve seen taking a stance on the political stage to clean up our industries outdated beauty regulations.
I was In the process if building my spa & The Beauty Barn was about a year out from our opening date. I started out with the company hosting events and bringing awareness to these issues through word of mouth and also attended meetings in Canada with members of parliment discussing updating cosmetic regulations. I was invited to speak to a group of over 200 women about the importance of immune compromised individuals and clean beauty and was even the only Canadian to have won a trip with Beautycounter to Washington DC to attend meetings with 8 members of Congress on the importance of passing more health protective laws.
Since then my spa has opened and become my main priority but Beautycounter has been a beautiful part of my journey. Thank you for the five year recognition @beautycounter
